I did it!!!!

When I was a kid, we would go roller skating about once or twice a month. The place we went to had 2 rinks, one for beginners and the main one. I hardly ever left the kiddy rink. I was anywhere from 8-11 skating the the 3-4 year olds. I just could never get the hang of it.

My dad was always gone working and he was never really part of that childhood. I have very few memories of him. But when he was there, I got to be in the normal rink! My dad would hold my hand and speed past everyone going in the circles! He was fast! I would get scared and tell him to slow down, to which he never did, he just went faster! I remember laughing and being happy that he was there.

For the last 15 years, I have still been trying to skate. . . I went this past week and guess what, I DID IT!!!!!! I don't know how, but I started out by the wall like always, holding on for dear life, but by the end of the night, I was doing laps around my brother!!! I was not the best there! I almost fell backwards at least once every lap. But somehow, I could catch myself! All night I would repeat the words that my brother and his friend were telling me:
push off with the side of your feet
bend your knees
have your arms out for balance
you can do it
trust yourself

Over and over again I said these words! I don't know how I ended up in the middle of the rink doing laps by myself, but I did. As I was skating, I thought of my dad, how proud he would be to see me finally skating on my own. I was so proud of myself! I couldn't wait to go home and tell mom! Prior to me leaving, she had laughed and wished me luck and told me not to fall on my butt too many times! Just wait till I tell her, after 15 years, I can now skate!!!
